South Africa Posts Highest Coronavirus Cases In 24 Hours

South Africa posted 354 confirmed coronavirus cases on Wednesday, its highest in a 24 hour cycle.

The new cases take the national total to 5,350, making South Africa the most stricken African country.

It is followed by Egypt which has 5,268 cases.

“This is the highest number of cases in a 24-hour cycle recorded to date and represents a 73% increase, relative to the day before,” Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said.

Till date, South Africa has tested 197,127 people, with 11 630 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

According to the latest figures, the Western Cape remains the epicentre of the virus with 2 135 cases.

It is followed by Gauteng with 1 406 and KwaZulu-Natal 956.

Eastern Cape has 630 cases, Free State 113, Limpopo 31, Mpumalanga 31.

North West has 29 and Northern cape 17 cases.

Ten more COVID-19 related deaths were also reported in the country on Wednesday.

Three of the deaths were reported in Gauteng, four in the Western Cape.

KwaZulu-Natal reported two deaths and Eastern Cape one.

The national death toll is now 103.
