\IGP Orders Investigation Into Assassination Attempt On OrtomPolice IG Mohammed Adamu

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu on Sunday ordered an investigation into the attack on the convoy of Samuel Ortom, Governor of Benue state.

Africa Daily News, New York reported that Ortom escaped death on Saturday after some gunmen attacked him while on a visit to his farm.

Frank Mba, Police Spokesman in a statement released on Sunday, said the IGP had instructed the commissioner of police and a team of specialized investigators in the state to carry “painstaking investigations” into the attack.

Adamu assured residents of the state of its commitment to ensure security.

Part of the statement read: ‘The IGP has also specifically instructed the CP to carry out painstaking investigations into the incident and ensure the arrest and prosecution of persons indicted in the course of the investigations.’

‘Also in order to ensure a speedy, thorough and conclusive investigation into the attack, the IGP has ordered the immediate deployment of a team of specialized investigators from the force criminal investigations department, Abuja, to Benue state to provide additional investigative support to the Benue state police command.’
