Libyan New Govt Asks Foreign Mercenaries To Leave

The new unity government in Libya has called for the immediate withdrawal of all foreign fighters from the country with immediate effect.

Thousands of mercenaries have supported opposing sides in the civil war that followed the ousting of the Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi in 2011.

The government in Tripoli was backed by Turkey, with support from mercenaries from Syria, while the eastern-based renegade general Khalifa Haftar – received backing from Russian mercenaries.

Recall that a ceasefire was agreed in October, leading to the establishment of the new government and plans for an election in December.
