2023 Pray For Good Leaders – Gen Gowon Tells Nigerians

Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon has informed Nigerians that the country deserves the best in terms of leadership, urging them to earnestly pray for the 2023 general election to produce a good leader.

He made the call while receiving officials of the Progressive Consolidation Group (PCG) at his Asokoro, Abuja home on Friday.

Gowon pointed out that leaders and citizens at all levels have a duty to sustain peace, progress and national unity, explaining that he has no partisan inclination.

The PCG in a statement stated that Gen. Gowon believes that God will decide the final outcome of the 2023 general election no matter the level of intrigues and circumstances.

He went on to add that in the nation’s interest, all politicians and their followers must look beyond the struggle for positions and sustain their faith for peace, unity and the future of Nigeria.

General Gowon charged, ‘Sustain hope, believe in Nigeria and believe in the cause of unity and peace.’

The Progressive Consolidation Group is one of the support groups in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that has elected to work to actualize a Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President’s presidency in 2023.

The PCG’s Deputy National Chairman (North), Musa Liman Kwande who is also the Baraden of Lafia Emirate and the Coordinator of PCG, Ahmed Muhammed Zagi, had a brief closed-door interaction with General Gowon.

Zagi, while speaking on their visit to General Gowon’s residence explained that their consultation visit was a matter of courtesy, stressing that as an elder statesman, General Gowon embraces everyone without any involvement in partisan politics.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had recently released its time table of electoral activities in the build-up to the 2023 elections.
