2023 Governor Ganduje Set To Pick Senatorial Form

The Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has concluded plans to pick the senatorial form on Monday (Today) to contest for the seat of Kano North senatorial district in next year’s general elections.

Ganduje’s decision to pick up the form was reached at the stakeholders meeting held behind closed doors at the government house.

A who was at the meeting on Sunday told Newsmen that the Governor is expected to pick the nomination and expression of interest forms for the Kano North Senatorial District on Monday.

With this development, Ganduje is now poised to unseat the incumbent Senator Barau Jibrin who is currently occupying the seat.

Although, Jibrin, had declared interest for the governorship seat but is yet to pick the form for the position.

Jibrin before now was a close ally of Ganduje and perceived to be favourite candidate of Ganduje for the governorship seat before things fell apart between them and he joined the factional APC (G7) led by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

Ganduje of Kano state has endorsed his deputy, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, as the preferred choice of the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 governorship election.

Africa Today News, New York gathered that the choice of Gawuna was made at a stakeholders’ meeting presided over by the governor on Saturday.

The stakeholders were also said to have agreed that the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo, should be the running mate of Gawuna in the election.

It was gathered that it the took intervention of party leaders and elder statesmen to prevail on Garo to step down for Gawuna.

Garo, who is believed to have control of the party structure at the local government level, was seen as the preferred candidate of the wife of the governor, Hafsat Ganduje.

The incumbent governor had served as the deputy of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso during the two terms he governed Kano.

If Gawuna wins the 2023 governorship election, the tradition of deputy governors succeeding their principals would have been maintained in Kano’s recent political era.
