Insecurity Umahi Condemns ‘Sacrilegious’ Owo Church Attack

Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi and Presidential Aspirant on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), has condemned Sunday’s bloody attack on a worship Centre in Owo, Ondo State.

Africa Today News, New York had earlier reported that the attack, which occured at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, claimed no fewer than 40 lives while leaving many others injured.

In a statement signed by Mr. Francis Nwaze (FIPMD), the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Umahi described the incident as sacrilegious.

According to the statement; ‘The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi has condemned the bandit attack on the Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State which claimed many lives on Sunday.

Governor Umahi who described the incident as “sacrilegious, wondered why people take delight in unnecessary blood letting”.

‘He expressed condolence to the affected families, the Catholic Community, and the Government of Ondo State for the “unfortunate loss of live’.

Umahi who is also the Chairman of the South East Governor’s Forum called on Security Agencies to rise to the occasion by apprehending the bandits and forestall its reoccurrence in any part of the Country.

The Chairman of the South East Governors Forum also prayed to God to grant the deceased rest in His bosom and that the hoodlums meet their waterloo.

Meanwhile, a Yoruba group identified as Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide (IOOW), has claimed that the attack is a declaration of war against the Yoruba people

Prof Banji Akintoye, leader of the apex body for Yoruba self-determination and self-preservation movement, in a statement by the Communications Secretary, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye on Monday, enjoined Governor Aketedolu, who is the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, to declare an emergency on the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the state with immediate effect.
