APC Convention: No Votes For Pastor Bakare After High Boasts

It was a humiliating send off for Pastor Tunde Bakare of The Citadel Global Community Church as he polled a shameful total of zero votes in the just concluded All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primaries thereby coming off as the bottom aspirant despite his high boasts of becoming the 16th president of Nigeria.

Analysis and political pundits have pointed out that this is a well deserved loss on his part because after spending ₦100 million to purchase the nomination and expression of interest form of the APC, the senior pastor did not bother to travel around for consultations with party leaders or national delegates in their states.

Bakare, however, vowed to win the 2022 presidential primary of the ruling party and become the 16th president of Nigeria.

According to the cleric, God had made him a promise of making him President Buhari’s successor.

But this turned out as one of those lofty dreams that never happened as the former Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) vice presidential candidate failed to score even a vote during the APC primaries held at Eagles Square, Abuja, on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The primary election was, however, won by former Governor of Lagos State and National Leader of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Tinubu scored 1070 votes to defeat his closest challenger and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, who scored 238. Vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo came third on 177 votes.

Others are:

Ahmed Lawal 102

Yahaya Bello 25

Dave Umahi 20

Ben Ayade 21

Ahmed Sani 3

Void Votes 8

Speaking at the national convention on Tuesday night Bakare said, “I respect every aspirant here, including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“But I am not stepping down for anyone.

“I am here by the grace of God to step up and contest to become the 16th president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
