Gov. Matawalle Mulls Stiffer Measures Against Zamfara Banditry

Bello Mohammed Matawalle who is the Zamfara State Governor has assured all Zamfara residents that his administration would be adopting the application of more stiffer security measures against the ravaging bandits that have been causing a lot of mayhem in the State.

The Governor stated this while reacting to the abduction of over 50 members of the GSM communication Union in Zamfara State, vowing that they must all be released.

The Governor, however, said it was very painful to note the rising cases of banditry activities in the state, the killing and abduction of innocent people on daily basis. In a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau, by the Special Adviser to Matawalle on media, Zailani Bappa, the Governor said his administration has taken steps in arresting the insecurity in the state.

He appealed to families of kidnapped victims to have confidence in the state government’s ability to curb banditry in the bud.

“The kidnapping of over 50 innocent youths between Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State and Lambar Bakura in Zamfara State marks another ugly moment in the fight against banditry we are facing in our state”, the statement added.

“I appeal to the families of all abducted persons to have confidence in our ability to do all that is needed to be done towards rescuing the kidnapped victims”

“I have directed all security agencies for the speedy location of the abducted persons and they will be rescued”

The Governor said the state government will not tolerate any act of indiscipline from criminal elements whose intention is to manipulate the insecurity situation to score cheap political points.

” My administration will no longer fold its arms and allow hoodlums to continue manipulating the misfortune of innocent people for their selfish political interest”

“We are a responsible Government and we shall not relent in ensuring the safety of all our citizens at all times. We shall not condone calculated political sabotage or vagaries and indiscriminate abuse of privileges to jeopardize our fragile security situation in the state”

“We have noted the rise of informants’ activities leading to many unfortunate banditry attacks on soft targets. We shall take more stringent steps in addressing the current situation, including possible communication shut down once again”
