Voter Upsurge: INEC Deploys Additional Machines In Rivers

In a fresh move to further make up for the increasing number of voters upsurge in the State, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has ordered for increase in the number of equipment for the Permanent Voter Cards registration in Rivers State.

The commission provided more IVES machines at their state headquarters in Port Harcourt to accommodate the high demand for registration.

The INEC National Commissioner in charge of voter education Festus Okoye had on Monday assured that the commission was making plans to deploy more machines to the state for the registration exercise.

INEC in Rivers State also created an additional center in the media center of their office with two additional IVES machines to cater for the demands of those visiting the office.

Some participants who passed through the exercise described it as “hectic”.

The commission, however, appealed to those who had registered before but needed to make corrections or transfer their voting unit to visit the INEC portal to complete the process.

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Anambra State has also created additional 25 registration centres, thereby bringing the total number to 87 centres in the state.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, stated this on Tuesday, during a press briefing on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration in the State.

According to him, creating additional centres was one of the measures adopted by the commission to address the sudden surge in the number of those seeking to register.

He also said that the commission has also reopened all the centres in the state that were shut down as a result of insecurity.

“I am pleased to announce that the Commission has created additional 25 registration centres in Anambra State and that they commenced operation by 9.00am today. The additional centres bring the total number of centres in Anambra to 87,” he said.

“We have also reopened some LGA offices that were shut down as a result of insecurity. Specifically, on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, the Idemili North LGA Office was reopened. Today, June 14, 2022, we have resumed registration exercise in Ogbaru and Ayamelum LGAs.”

He also said that the commission had reorganised its operational procedure by separating people seeking biometric services from those that require non-biometric services.
