Kwara Declares War On Hoteliers Over Harbouring Of Yahoo Boys

The Kwara State House of Assembly has mandated the state Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq to order the state Ministry of Communications to embark on sensitisation of hoteliers on the danger of harbouring internet fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys in their facilities in the state.

The House also advised the ministry to collaborate with the hoteliers on the development to flush the state off the fraudsters.

This was part of a resolution by the House, on a matter of general public importance, raised by the House leader, Magaji Abubakar Olawoyin (Ilorin Central), at the plenary.

The House Leader came under Order VII, Rule 40 of the House Rules to draw the attention of the House to the need to caution owners and operators of hotels in Kwara State on the dangers inherent in harbouring Yahoo-Yahoo fraudsters in their hotels.

Hon. Magaji noted the importance of the advent of social media by transforming the entire world into a global village where people interact and communicate without much hindrance.

The House leader, however, observed that “despite the enormous advantages, some youths have turned its usage to perpetuate nefarious activities including defrauding innocent people of their hard earned resources, especially money and other personal effects.”

Hon. Magaji expressed concern about the ‘involvement of hoteliers who have turned themselves to patrons of these fraudsters by allowing them to stay in their premises for a very long period after paying huge sums of money to lodge in their facilities.’

Africa Today News, New York reports that there has been a renewed war against internet fraudsters in Nigeria.

The Economic Financial Commission Commission (EFCC) had two weeks ago issued a stern warning that landlords may risk 15 years in jail for renting houses out to “Yahoo boys.’

The Commission made this known ahead of the next edition of its public conversation series tagged, ‘#EFCCConnect,’ which has been slated to be held by 6pm on Twitter Space on Wednesday, June 29th 2022.
