Katsina Govt Sets Aside N3bn For 10 Cattle Ranches

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it has actually released  ₦6.25billion for the establishment of some more cattle ranches in local councils which have been affected by banditry in Katsina State.

The Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Mannir Yakubu had made the announcement on Monday.

Yakubu, also Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, spoke at the Ranch Stakeholders Development Meeting in Katsina. Local government areas where the grazing reserves would be established are Jibia, Batsari, Dutsinma, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa and Dandume.

It had also been reported that some part of the funds released will be used to construct schools, health centres and veterinary clinics in the villages hosting the reserves.

Yakubu assured that the federal and the state governments are determined to ensure peace in places by cattle rustling, kidnapping and other criminalities.

“We are soliciting for the support and cooperation of the affected communities to provide suitable sites for the execution of these projects”, Yakubu said.

In another report, a fresh broad daylight attack by terrorists on Thursday has left no fewer than three people dead and several others injured at Dantsauni village in Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

An eyewitness told Africa Today News, New York on Friday morning, that the terrorists who were armed with sophisticated weapons had invaded the village in their numbers on motorcycles on yesterday at about 3:55 pm when the faithful were preparing for Asr prayer.

According to the eyewitness, during the attack, dozens of people, mostly women and children were said to have been abducted.

The eyewitness added that hundreds of residents ran for safety.

The terrorists on their arrival started shooting sporadically along the Katsina Ring Road which is close to the Katsina town, the eyewitness said, adding that during the attack, which lasted for over 45 minutes, no security personnel was seen.
