Rivers, Kano, Abuja Will Be Getting 9000 Capacity Prisons – FG

Rauf Aregbesola who is the Nigerian Minister of Interior has on Monday noted that the federal government of Nigeria would be completing the 9,000 special facility capacity custodial centres in three states of the country by December, 2022.

These 3,000 capacity custodial centres have been slated to be located in Kano, Rivers and Abuja.

Aregbesola had also made this disclosure to journalists after a facility tour to the 3,000 ultra modern Capacity Custodial Centre Karshi, Abuja and he had announced that the one in Kano was almost completed while the facilities in Rivers and Abuja were at 55% of completion.

“My desire is to have the first three of the six projects to be completed before this administration ends.

“We have a similar facility in Kano that is almost completed. I believe before December, it will be inaugurated and commissioned by the President. The one at River State is almost at the same stage like this. With support from the President, these two (Rivers and Abuja) will be completed by the end of the year,” he said.

In another report, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has finally conceded to Nigerians that security operatives failed to stop the terrorists’ attack on the Kuje Custodial Centre, Abuja on July 5, 2022, in face of the efforts and equipment being put in place.

While speaking at an investigative hearing by the House of Representatives Joint Committee investigating the attack, the minister who was said that there were 65 well-armed security agents meant to resist the attack, but failed, adding that the number of escapees was 888 persons.

The House was expressing concern that the attack lasted for hours without any visible intervention made by security agents to forestall it.
