2023 Wike, Ugwuanyi, Ortom, Other Govs Meet In Enugu

Ahead of next year’s presidential elections, five Governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday held a strategic meeting in Enugu State to reach conclusions on their next line of actions.

Inside who were privy to the discussions told Africa Today News, New York were anchored on how to deliver the Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in 2023.

The Governors who attended the meeting were; Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikeazu of Abia State and the host Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

According to the insider, the five governors were pushed to to back Peter Obi’s candidacy because they are not comfortable with the PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the decision of the governors may not be unconnected to the crisis rocking the main opposition party.

The crisis, which was birthed by the face-off between Wike and the former vice president, had degenerated despite efforts by party stakeholders to quell the cold war.

This was also as no fewer than four members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) have refunded about ₦122.4 million to the party in very controversial circumstances.

In separate letters to the PDP, the NWC members said the monies had been paid into their account without their knowledge.

The money was reported to be part of the over ₦10 billion realised by the party from nomination fees paid by aspirants.

The NWC members who returned the money are the National Vice Chairman (South-West) Olasoji Adagunodo, the Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja; National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Dan Orbih and National Women Leader, Prof. Stella Affah-Attoe.

While Adagunodo, Orbih and Effah-Attoe got N28.8 million each, Arapaja was paid ₦36 million.
