Obi Fumes As Thugs Attacks Supporter During Sensitisation

As campaigns take center stage, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has decried an attack on one of his supporters, Mr. Joshua Alamu by hoodlums suspected to be political thugs.

Africa Today News, New York gathered that Mr. Alamu was attacked on Saturday while he was carrying out a sensitisation in some parts of Nasarawa State ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The development generated reactions from concerned Nigerians who demanded a full investigation to uncover the identities behind the horrible incident.

In his reaction, the Labour Party candidate, in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, reiterated his call for an enabling environment where everyone can exercise his/her fundamental human rights without intimidation.

He wrote, ‘Once again, I wish to stress that Nigerian civic and political space must remain open for the Nigerian people to exercise their constitutional rights of freedom of assembly.

‘Physical attacks on individuals exercising such rights is utterly unacceptable. -PO’.

Africa Today News, New York reports that this is not the first time such attacks is being reported by the Labour Party and their supporters.

Meanwhile, the Police Command in Lagos State has assured Nigerians that it will investigate the alleged attack on two supporters of the former Governor of Anambra State who were said to have escaped being lynched at the Oshodi motor park, for wielding Party’s flags once it gets an official report on the incident.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the flag boys were allegedly apprehended, beaten up to a pulp, and nearly set ablaze by some touts who operate at Oshodi motor park, before they were rescued by a courageous soldier.

In a video that went viral, the victims claimed that they were going about their normal duty with the Labour Party flag and insignia, when they were accosted by motor touts who were ordered by their superior to beat them up and set them ablaze.
