Reps Step Down Motion To Suspend Proposed Ban On Motorcycles

The Nigerian House of Representatives has finally directed a new resolution which would be able to carry out a fresh investigation which had been made into the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over some of the alleged irregularities in staff recruitment and promotion.

This new development had also followed with the adoption of a fresh motion which had been made by Rep. Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP-Rivers) and Rep. Dumnamene Dekor (PDP-Rivers) at plenary on Tuesday in Abuja.

And while presenting the motion, Abiante had also alleged that the NSCDC has not been observing some of the principles of Federal Character in its recruitment processes and he had also revealed that most of the recruitment which had been marred with irregularities, racketeering, favouritism and nepotism.

Abiante said that the recruitment was done without advertisement.

In another report, the section of the Nigerian House of Representatives Committee who have been in charge of investigating for the duplication of functions of Ministries, Departments and Agencies In Nigeria have on Wednesday discussed the major possibility of actually merging the Nigeria Communications Commission and also the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The senate committee had also raised the possibility of this merger when Umar Danbatta who is the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, appeared before the Committee.

A member of the Committee, who had been identified as Ibrahim Isiaka, raised the operational possibility of such a merger.

“I draw an organogram, all these agencies will be under the NCC,” Mr Isiaka said about the information technology-related agencies.

Mr Danbatta stated that the functions of the agencies differ, however, the final decision is within the purview of the lawmakers.
