Lagos Govt Decrees To Jail Sellers Of Expired Products

In a fresh decree, the Lagos State Government has revealed that it would be going tough on some of the business owners and manufacturers who are currently selling some of the adulterated and expired products ahead of the recent December rush.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Afolabi Solebo has also advised consumers to be cautious and the official had spoken with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Solebo said the authorities were aware that ember months are when some people sell products that are about to expire or already expired.

“This is the time they will start doctoring the manufacture date and expiry date.”

Solebo said goods found to be adulterated would be confiscated while the perpetrators would face the law.

The GM assured that the agency would continue to carry out public enlightenment and Solebo had also added that first time offenders are usually made to pay fine or sent to do time in prison.

“If you are a second time offender, you will be made to pay a fine and you get one year imprisonment without any option of fine”, he explained.

In another report, Aviation workers who are protesting the sacking of their colleagues on Tuesday shut down the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos Terminal Two.

The protesting aviation workers at the time of making this report had shut down the terminal over the sacking of their colleagues by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited.

Passengers were stranded Tuesday morning as flight operations have been put on hold as a result of the protest.

In another report, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Isah Idris, on Monday, ordered the investigation of a case of extortion allegedly perpetrated by officers of the NIS at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.
