3 Buildings Razed In Ibadan Market Fire, NEMA Confirms

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has revealed that no fewer than three buildings were razed down on Sunday as a result of a fire incident at Agbeni Market in Ibadan.

The agency also confirmed that one electric pole, agricultural and industrial chemicals, and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the inferno.

Africa Today News, New York gathered that a fire incident occurred on Sunday at the market.

The South West zonal coordinator of NEMA, Saheed Akiode, told reporters on Monday mornng that: ‘The NEMA South West Zonal Office conducted a post-disaster assessment of the fire incident in Agbeni Market, Ibadan, on Sunday, May 14, 2023.’

He disclosed further: ‘The assessment team was received by the chairman of the market, Oludare Oluremisi. He briefed the team on the impact of the disaster on traders and appealed to the federal government to come to the aid of the affected traders.

‘The disaster affected three buildings, one electric pole, and agricultural and industrial chemicals; properties worth millions of naira were destroyed in the inferno. However, no casualty was recorded.’

In another report, all Nigerian students fleeing war-torn Sudan have been successfully evacuated from Sudan, Africa Today News, New York has gathered.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) made the announcement on the Federal Government’s behalf on Saturday.

Since the commencement of the evacuation exercise on May 3, no fewer than 2,518 Nigerians have been airlifted to the Nigerian soil.

Saturday’s evacuation happened to be the 15th batch where 125 more Nigerians arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

The evacuees arrived at 12:49 pm on a Tarco B737-300 aircraft from Port Sudan. The latest arrival brings the total number of evacuated Nigerians from Sudan to 2,371.

Upon arrival, the returnees were processed by immigration officials alongside their colleagues from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons.
