The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has expressed strong confidence that Senator Godswill Akpabio will emerge as the next president of the 10th Senate.
He revealed this on Monday while speaking with pressmen after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to him, the committee set up by President Tinubu to resolve the controversy over the forthcoming leadership race has achieved substantial progress.
Africa Today News, New York reports that Uzodinma, who doubles as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, said the move was in collaboration with the outgoing Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.
He also assured that Lawan would work for the emergence of the preferred candidates of the party.

A new set of leadership of the National Assembly will emerge tomorrow.
This is as the race for the Senate president has been tied among the trio of Akpabio, Abdulaziz Yari, and Orji Kalu.
Recall that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had last week declared his total support for the ambition of Senator Godswill Akpabio for the office of the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly, declaring that for him, it is ‘pay back time’.
‘This is the time for me to support him because he supported me when I wanted to be the governor of River State,’ Wike said.
He said this when he received members of the Stability Group, a group of Senators-elect, rooting for the emergence of Akpabio, led by its Director General, Senator Ali Ndume.
In his response, the Senate Presidential hopeful, Senator Godswill Akpabio, thanked Governor Wike for his support for his aspiration to emerge the next Senate President.
‘Let me congratulate you for ending your tenure as the governor of River State on the high. You have done well for your people and Nigerians. History would be kind to you as you exit office in the next few days. You believe in justice, equity and fairness and that is what Nigerians know you for,’ Akpabio said.
Ndume had earlier described Wike as a man of his words and very reliable.
