Ogun: Mother Strangled To Death By Drug Addict Son

A shocking report from Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the Ogun State, has it that a 32-year-old man, Samson Sikiru, who was reportedly struggling with drug addiction, allegedly killed his mother by strangulation on Sunday.

The alarm was raised by the suspect’s younger brother, a night guard, who came back from his night shift and made the horrifying discovery that their mother had been killed.

Samson’s role in his mother’s demise was uncovered by vigilant neighbours, who then apprehended him and turned him over to the police, leading to his arrest.

An Informant’s account has it that the suspect had a well-known history of drug addiction and had disappeared from home five years ago until his recent return.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the occurrence, stating that the command was fully informed about the incident.

Odutola stated that the suspect is currently receiving medical care as a neuropsychiatric patient. The PPRO elaborated that, to prevent harm to himself or others, the family members sometimes had to restrain Samson by tying him down with ropes.

‘He had remained with his mother, whom he visited during Sallah celebrations, even though he is known for his retard tendency, but his condition was being managed to the best of the knowledge of his mother.’

‘It is not yet clear if there was any provocation by his mother, but, preliminary investigation revealed that earlier same day, he was tied up in the house, only for him to loose himself and descended on his mother and strangled her,’ she recounted.

‘Samson Sikiru is still in the police custody, but, nothing much has been gotten from him, as he has not answered any coherent questions put across to him,’ she added.

The presence of bruises on the deceased’s neck and lacerations on her right leg served as tangible proof of forceful actions, as per Odutola’s account.
