Van Dijk Assumes Liverpool Captaincy, Trent As Assistant

The leadership positions at Liverpool Football Club have taken a different shape, with Virgil van Dijk taking on the captain’s role and Trent Alexander-Arnold stepping in as the assistant captain, as officially confirmed by the club.

The decision to appoint Virgil van Dijk as captain and Trent Alexander-Arnold as assistant captain came following the departure of former captain Jordan Henderson, who completed a 12-year tenure at the club by moving to Saudi side Al-Ettifaq.

In an interview featured on the club’s official website, the Dutch defender expressed his strong sense of pride and gratification upon assuming the prestigious role of the club’s captain.

‘[It’s] a really proud day for me, for my wife, for my kids, my family. It’s been a special feeling, and I can’t really describe it at this point. But it’s something that I’m really, really proud of.’

‘Obviously I’m captain of Holland, that was already such a huge honour, a proud moment as well. But also to be the captain of Liverpool Football Club is something that I can’t describe at this point.’

England’s fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold will take on the position of the team’s deputy captain, succeeding James Milner, who departed in the summer.
