Palliatives For Herders Miyetti Allah Begs Federal Govt

Malam Bello Abubakar who is the Chairman of Miyetti Allah in Kwara State has sent a strong appeal to the federal government of Nigeria to extend fuel subsidy removal palliatives to members of the association.

He made the appeal while speaking with reporters in Ilorin, the state’s capital, claiming that the herders had been the most negatively impacted at the time.

He also encouraged the government to release food supplies from the country’s stockpile and sell them to low-income Nigerians at subsidised prices.

According to Abubakar, the majority of herders do not have bank accounts through which they may quickly obtain money when necessary.

He said whenever herdsmen take their livestock to the market for sale, transportation fares take a larger part of the money.

To that effect, the organisation on Monday announced the constitution of a 55-member legal committee to to take stock of all cases against it members nationwide with a view to seek legal redress.

Two other committees comprising enlightenment and nomadic education were also inaugurated to address the problem of education and social cohesion.

The association made their stand known during their annual general meeting held in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.

According to the association, the continuous incarceration of Fulani cattle herders in the country has compelled the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani to inaugurated a 55-member legal team to rescue herdsmen currently serving unjust jail terms.

Speaking at the group’s AGM, National President of the association, Alhaji Abdullahi Bodejo, said a situation where all Fulani herdsmen were treated as criminally-minded people was untrue, unjust and unfair.
