Organisers Release 2023 AFCON Draw [Full list]

Ahead of the biennial tournament which is slated to hold next year, the draw for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), draw for the tournament has been conducted.

The draw was conducted at the brand-new Parc des Expositions, Abidjan, on Thursday.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are placed in Group A alongside the host nation Ivory Coast.

The AFCON defending champions Senegal are in Group C alongside Cameroon, Guinea and The Gambia.

The tournament will take place in January, 2024.

In another report, ahead of the international friendly against Saudi Arabia, the Nigerian national football team has welcomed four additional players to their training camp in Portugal.

Among the new arrivals are Kelechi Iheanacho and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, both of whom have ties to Manchester City’s academy. Former Watford goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka have also joined the squad.

Despite their recent club commitments, these players have reported for international duty. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, a 2019 Flying Eagles invitee, met his new teammates and participated in his first training session with the senior national team.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the Super Eagles are scheduled to face Saudi Arabia’s Green Falcons in Portimão, Portugal on October 13, 2023, at 5 pm (Nigerian time). They will also play against Mozambique’s Mambas in the same city three days later.

These matches are in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, with the Super Eagles hosting Lesotho’s Crocodiles on November 17 and then traveling to play Zimbabwe four days later.
