Solomon Arase, as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, adviced active members of the Nigeria Police Force, urging them to incorporate friendliness into their professional conduct, mindful of their eventual transition to civilian life.

The call for officers’ renewed commitment to national service in 2024 comes from the retired Inspector General of Police.

Giving accolades in his New Year message, Arase recognized the Commission’s staff and the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force for their sacrifices, pivotal in fostering relative peace and national cohesion.

Asking for a two-way relationship, he called on officers to build friendly connections with citizens, emphasizing the mutual benefits derived from shared information for enhanced intelligence gathering.

Arase said, ‘Officers should understand that they have a date with history and will retire and leave the service one day and also become civilians.’

While noting that the cops deserved commendations ‘for their dedication to duty’, he called for greater dedication in the new year.

The PSC boss promised that the commission will ensure that ‘the welfare of the Officers will receive the attention of the Commission in the new year to serve as motivation for improved service delivery.’

A statement posted on the PSC website on Sunday quoted the PSC Chairman promising that ‘promotion of Officers will continue to be regular and predictable,’ adding that ‘the Commission will do all it can to make Police work in Nigeria attractive once again.’

Arase highlighted the success of the existing strategic partnership between the Commission and the Nigeria Police, While he urged for its continuation.

‘Dr. Arase prayed that the year 2024 will be a turning point in the lives of Nigerians. He wished Nigerians a happy and prosperous new year and the Officers and Men, God’s protection as they go about undertaking the hazardous task of ensuring a safe and secure environment in the country,’ the statement concluded.
