Brazilian wonderkid Estêvão Willian has tested positive for influenza while with the national team in Tokyo, the Brazilian Football Confederation’s (CBF) medical department confirmed.
The 17-year-old forward, who recently signed with Chelsea and has been impressing at Palmeiras, showed mild flu symptoms during the Seleção’s preparation for their upcoming friendly. Following precautionary testing, doctors confirmed the flu diagnosis and have opted to monitor him closely before Monday’s full training session.
According to reports, Estêvão’s condition is not considered serious, and medical staff expect him to recover in time for the match. However, the coaching team has already identified Lucas Paquetá as a potential replacement if further rest is deemed necessary.
“Estêvão will remain under observation and continue receiving medical care. We expect a swift recovery,” said a source within the Brazil camp.
The young winger’s rapid rise has generated excitement both in Brazil and abroad. His flair, composure, and eye for goal have drawn comparisons to Neymar, and Brazil fans were eager to see him continue building chemistry with the senior squad during this international window.
Should Estêvão be sidelined temporarily, it would be a minor setback for the teenager but also a chance for Paquetá to regain rhythm after a challenging period off the pitch.

Brazil’s medical staff emphasized that the decision to re-evaluate Estêvão on Monday is purely precautionary, aiming to protect both the player and the group as they adjust to Tokyo’s climate conditions.
Despite the health scare, optimism remains high within the Seleção camp. Estêvão’s potential debut on Japanese soil is still on the cards, and the player himself is said to be eager to return to training as soon as he is cleared.
If his recovery proceeds as expected, Brazil fans may yet see one of the country’s most promising young talents back in action before the week ends.
