President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the appointment of Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation following the suspension of the former AGF for corruption.
Nwabuoku is to take over the position pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF, Ahmad Idris.
Buhari’s former aide, Bashir Ahmed confirmed the development on Sunday in a message on social media.
Africa Today News, New York had earlier reported that Idris was last week suspended by the Minister of Finance, budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.

His suspension came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arrested him for allegedly diverting funds and laundering N80billion.
He wrote on Twitter, “Mr. Anamekwe Chukwunyere Nwabuoku has been appointed to oversee the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, pending the outcome of the EFCC investigation of the suspended AGF, Ahmad Idris.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Nigeria’s Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris.
EFCC Head of Media, Wilson Uwujaren announced this in a statement on Monday.
The spokesman said EFCC operatives took Idris into custody for alleged massive fraud.
The top official is accused of diversion of funds and money laundering to the tune of N80billion.
Uwujaren noted that the commission acted on verified intelligence against Idris.
He is said to have “raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates”.
The funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja, the EFCC added.
Idris was nabbed after failing to honour invitations to respond to issues connected to the alleged fraudulent acts.
