ASUU Vows To Appeal Court Ruling On End Of Strike

The Nigerian National Industrial Court, NIC, has finally tendered a series of summons to the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, to make sure that they appear before it on Monday in Abuja over the lingering strike which had been embarked on by the union eight months ago.

The Federal Government of Nigeria is asking the court to order ASUU to resume academic activities, having shut the public universities for eight months and the letter of summon issued by the court on September 9 and signed by the Chief Registrar indicated that the National Industrial Court sitting would be at No 11, New-Bussa close, Area 3, Garki Abuja, on Monday 12th September 2022, at 9 am.

In another report, the factional leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in a bid to intervene in the lingering strike action by ASUU has also appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government of Nigeria to bury the hatchet and return to the negotiating table to find an amicable solution to the lingering industrial action.

The President of the student’s group, Umar Faruk had also made the appeal on Thursday in Abuja, where he had threatened that if all parties to the disagreement failed to resolve the crisis in the coming weeks, the Nigerian students may be compelled to occupy the Federal Ministry of Education.

The NANS leadership had also urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to make sure that they set up visitation panels to address issues of politically expelled and rusticated students.
