Floods: Niger Delta Reps Call Humanitarian Minister's Sack

The Nigerian Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Farouq has spurred the the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) into action to immediately provide succour to the victims and families of the Owo attack.

The attacked occurred at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, in Owo town, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The directive is contained in a statement on Monday.

Farouq described the murder as cold-blooded, evil and horrific.

“Officials from NEMA, Ekiti Operation Office have arrived at the Federal Medical Center, Owo where the dead were taken to and the injured are being treated.ualties”.

“Meanwhile, Mr Kadiri Olarenwaju, Head NEMA Ekiti Operations Office, covering Ekiti, Ondo and Osun states has reported the admission of 22 adults and 11 children to the emergency wards at the Owo,” Farouq said.

She commiserated with the families of the dead, the Catholic Church, the people and the government of Ondo State.

“This killing is horrific and mindless. The killing of many worshippers inside St Francis Catholic Church on a Sunday morning is condemnable.

“A lot of men, women, young girls and children had their lives snuffed out during a church service in Owo.

“I mourn with their families and state government as well as the church. We pray for the repose of their souls,” she said.

Former Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi; Senator Ibikunle Amosun and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday suspended planned political activities in Abuja ahead of the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress to visit Owo local government, Ondo State, where the church massacre occurred.

It was learnt while Amosun, Fayemi and Tinubu were already in Owo, Osinbajo had already arrived in Ondo State but had not yet reached Owo as of the time of filing this report.

The attack on the church in Owo, the hometown of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, came barely a week after the Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Bishop Samuel Kanu-Uche, was kidnapped in Abia State by gunmen, who the priest later identified as Fulani youths.

It was learnt the gunmen, who attacked the Catholic Church, arrived at the premises, which is less than 200 metres from the palace of the Olowo of Owo, at 12 pm when the Sunday mass was being rounded off.
