Gov Buni Reacts As Many Are Reported Dead In Boat Mishap

Hon. Mai Mala Buni who is the Yobe State Governor has openly expressed his heartfelt sorrow at the sad news of some recent boat mishaps in the Jumbam community of the Tarmuwa Local Government Area of the State.

Two boats which had been loaded with some passengers who had been going to Babbangida weekly market had capsized on Saturday, with only two bodies recovered so far.

Gov. Buni, who had made his feelings known in a statement through his spokesperson, Mamman Mohammed, on Saturday also directed an intensive search mission with the hope to rescue the remaining victims or their bodies.

The governor described the accident as sad, unfortunate, and devastating, and prayed for the safe rescue of the victims while advising travellers on the roads, streams, and rivers as well as, residents along water banks to always be cautious.

“The heavy rains and floods usually come from far and unannounced, we should always be on the watch out and avoid dangerous ways,” he warned.

In another report, the Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has on Wednesday sent condolence messages to the families of seven persons who had perished in a car accident in Buni Yadi Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Mai Buni had offered his condolences in a statement which had been issued by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, in Damaturu.

DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the command’s spokesman said that the accident involved a golf car, that somersaulted, killing the driver and seven passengers. Four passersby were also injured in the accident.

The governor said he was deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident.

He, however, cautioned motorists against flouting road traffic rules, saying the increase in road accidents in the state must be checked to save lives.
