Randy Waldrum, the head coach of the Super Falcons, also released his team for the friendly.

The only time the Super Falcons have defeated Japan was during their first-ever encounter at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.

While Nadeshiko has gone undefeated in their previous six foreign games across all competitions, the Super Falcons have lost their last four games.
