Chukwuma Soludo: Wins Anambra Governorship Elections — INEC

INEC Declares Chukwuma Soludo Winner Of Anambra Governorship

INEC declares APGA’s Chukwuma Soludo winner of Anambra governorship election after securing 422,664 votes in a decisive victory across 21 LGAs.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Chukwuma Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the winner of the Anambra State governorship election, concluding one of Nigeria’s most closely watched regional polls of the year.

The results, announced earlier today Sunday November 9, 2025, by the State Collation Officer, Prof. Edogah Omoregie of the University of Benin, showed that Soludo secured a commanding victory with 422,664 votes, far ahead of his main challenger, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes.

A total of 584,054 votes were recorded across the 21 local government areas of the state. Other parties trailed by wide margins, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) obtaining 8,208 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 1,401 votes.

The announcement sparked celebrations in Awka, the state capital, and across APGA strongholds as supporters hailed Soludo’s re-election as a reaffirmation of confidence in his leadership. The election was largely peaceful, though turnout varied across regions, with stronger participation reported in Anambra Central and South senatorial zones.

Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and Economics Professor, has been credited with steering Anambra toward fiscal stability and infrastructural reform during his first term. His re-election, observers say, underscores APGA’s enduring influence in the state, where the party has maintained political dominance for nearly two decades.

In local results, Soludo swept major population centers including Awka South (27,896 votes), Aguata (35,559 votes), Onitsha North (24,225 votes), and Idemili North (25,498 votes). His most decisive win came in Anambra West, where he amassed 71,365 votes, compared to APC’s 16,595.

While the APC made modest gains in a few local councils, its overall performance fell short of expectations despite an energetic campaign led by Ukachukwu, who had promised sweeping infrastructural and security reforms.

INEC officials commended the conduct of the polls, noting improvements in the transmission of results and voter verification under Nigeria’s ongoing electoral reforms.

Soludo is expected to deliver his victory speech in Awka later today, outlining the priorities for his second term, including economic diversification, rural development, and youth employment initiatives.

With Sunday’s declaration, INEC formally brought an end to the 2025 Anambra governorship race, confirming Soludo’s continued leadership of the southeastern state.
